Attending and running events for the Financial Services industry means I often find myself as “the odd one out”, in rooms and stages that are filled prevalently
Things have surely changed since I started my career in this sector back in 2007, but there is still a steep path ahead for an equal gender representation at such convenings.

In 2015 one of my job titles was ‘tribebuilder’ at Tribewanted. We co-created a tiny eco-tourism community with the local clan of Gonubalabala in Papua New Guinea. It was a project which involved all of my favourite things in the world: travel, adventure, coaching, sustainability and community life.
…It’s my fourth anniversary of becoming a civilian.
I love this anniversary. It marks such a fundamental change in my life. One of real fork-in-the-road moments in life. I really enjoy taking some time to reflect on what’s happened in the last year and to check-in with the new life I’m creating for myself.
What on earth is the fear of success?
We all know it takes courage and self-belief to start a business. But one thing I’ve discovered is that the journey of personal development doesn’t end when you take that brave step of hanging the ‘open’ sign in your metaphorical shop window.
I’ve had a particularly sudden and sharp trajectory from 9-5 office worker to running my own freelance writing business.
However, the reality is that I’ve been preparing to take this leap for many years.
Last week, on Thursday 17th March, we had an amazing event called “the plot”. We were hosted by the wonderful Duck and Dry and we will be back very soon!
The objective of the event was to have an introspective journey, guided by psychologist Natasha Tiwari, in order to understand what happens when we are in the “zone 2” of our story, right after the comfort zone and before the resolution one. In other words, what to do when things go wrong? And which strategy can be easily implemented for us to start rising again?

The last NOI event was fantastic: the topic was leadership, but with a difference. There was no talk about developing leadership skills or thinking like a man, the focus was more on authenticity.
A stage and I are diametrically opposed.
Don’t get me wrong: I love getting some attention and being able to engage people…but I feel everyone else in the world would do a better job than me 🙂
During the 9th July event we discussed about some life changing books. One of them was Be a Free Range Human by Marianne Cantwell. After the event I prepared a list of resources that included this book and shared it with the NOI ladies on facebook. Lorna, one of the founding members, mentioned to me that Marianne was in London.
